The Royal Windsor Horse Show celebrated its 21st anniversary in 1964, with the iconic Windsor Castle in the background. Her Majesty The Queen – herself a keen horsewoman – attended the three-day show, watching over the various horse disciplines from the Royal Box.
That year the Show hosted the British Olympic Showjumping Team Trial for the Tokyo games that Summer, and show jumpers competing included George Hobbs, David Broome, Annelie Drummond-Hay and David Barker. Before the iconic Castle Arena gained its all-weather surface, these jumping competitions all took place on grass. At the Olympics later in the year, Peter Robeson took a Bronze medal in the Individual Showjumping for GBR aboard Firecrest.
